IF THESE INSTRUCTIONS DON'T MATCH WHAT YOU SEE ON YOUR SCREEN...
You may be using our older Legacy website. To access those instructions, click here.
NOTE: Email service (e-service) is not required. To skip e-service, return to the Filings tab and set the Filing Type to eFile Only.
The Service tab will show all the Service Contacts that have had their email addresses added to be electronically or physically served on the case. If you do not see a Party's email address, then they have yet to add their email to the case.
Add a checkmark to the "EServe" box under the Service Method text at the left of the Service Contact card to electronically serve that email address. Uncheck that box if you do not want to electronically serve that Service Contact.
To add a new Service Contact to the case, click the Add button at the upper right corner of the screen, then select one of the options in the dropdown menu.
- "Add Me" adds your email address to the Service Contacts list.
- "From Party List" allows you to add an email address from the list of people in the Parties tab to the case.
- "Firm List" allows you to add an email address from your personal account's Service Contacts list or from your Firm Service Contacts list to the case's Service Contacts list.
- "Add New Contact" allows you to add an entirely new Service Contact to the case.
Click here if you would like to learn how to add a service contact to a case.
- Please Note: You should NOT add opposing sides as contacts to a case unless you are adding them from the Public List. If they are not on the Public List you will need to serve them through traditional methods. The Public list and Add New option vary by state. See What is the Public List? (Service Contacts)
If you need to edit one of the existing Service Contacts, click on the three-dot icon at the upper right corner of the Service Contact card, then click Edit Service Contact.
If you wish to add another method of service — such as Certified Mail, Sheriff's service, or some other method of serving the physical paperwork to the other Party or Parties — click on the blue Add Other Service Methods button.
Click on one of the checkboxes in the window that appears to select which method of physical service you wish to add. You must enter the Service Address below (if you haven't done so already), and some methods of service (like Sheriff Service) require you to select a Service Provider as well. Click the blue Save button once you are done.
Some methods of service may add an auto-generated service document to your Filings page. (See below.)
If any fees are added to the draft due to the methods of service you select, you will see them on the Fees tab. (See below.)
Once the emails and service types have been checked for service, click on the blue Fees button at the lower left hand corner.
- Are you unable to remove the checkmark next to a Service Contact entry you do not wish to send e-service to? This Service Contact may have been added by someone else on the case and will continue to receive e-service. You may have to contact either whoever added this Service Contact entry to have them remove this entry from the case's Service Contacts list.
FAQ: If I am starting the case, am I automatically added to the Service Contacts for the case?
Answer: Adding a service contact is a manual action taken by the user. Filing a new case does NOT automatically add your information to the service contacts for the case.
NOTE: If you do not have the email address of the Service Contact you wish to add and you cannot find their contact information via the Public List, you will have to contact the person you wish to add to the Service Contact list and obtain their email address from them. If the Service Contact you wish to add is an organization, you may need to find a public email address for that organization via web search or from the organization's website.
