Sometimes, a filer is starting a new case that only requires one Party.* However, the system may require the filer to name two Parties in order to progress. What should that filer do to continue?
The first step we recommend filers take in these situations is to contact the clerks at the court they are filing into to find out to advise them of the situation and get more information. A few important questions to ask are:
- Is there anything specific they want the filer to type into the unnecessary Party name (like "Unavailable", "Non-Applicable", "N/A", "No Party" or something similar)?
- Is this Case Type misconfigured? If the case isn't supposed to show more than one Party in the Parties page, then the case may be configured on the court's end. If so, the clerks should contact our Court Support team to resolve the matter.
* This does not include Probate cases (where the deceased may be listed as another Party) or
name change cases (where the other Party can be the name the filer is changing theirs to.)
