When filing into an existing case with North Carolina, please take note of the following search tips:
Example Case Number (Wake County Superior Court): 22CVS1234
Format to search for the case number in the efile site: 22CVS001234-910 (YYCVS00XXXX-CCC)
Explanation of case number format: (YYCVSXXXX-CCC)
YY = 2-digit year
CVS = case type/location will cause this to vary (CV=civil;S is normally Superior Court, D is normally District Court).
For Criminal cases (CRS), remove the S in the case number when searching (Ex: 22CR00123 instead of 22CRS00123)
00 = leading zeroes after the letters in the case number so that the number is 9 digits/characters in length
-CCC = -county code
Note: You can also add a wildcard (*) at the end of the case number if you do not know your County Code.
Note: If you still cannot locate the case, try removing some of the leading zeroes after the letters in the case number to try to maintain the 9 digits/character length.
For a list of county codes, please refer to the following article in the link below:
First, try searching in this format to see if the case appears. If so, enter the case number in this format. If not, try entering without the county code at the end of the case number.
